The AKC’s Canine Good Citizen program provides a standard for dog behavior in our homes and in the public. We offer three of the AKC evaluations - CGC, CGCA, and CGCU.
The skills needed to pass these evaluations form the basis for living with our dogs - from reliable obedience skills, to recalls, to greeting new people, training your dog to be comfortable in new environments. It also provides a great foundation for getting started in dog sports and Therapy Dog volunteering.
The CGC test includes skills of accepting a friendly stranger, sitting politely for petting and grooming, loose leash walking, sit/down/stay, and coming to you when called.
The CGCA test includes more advanced versions of the CGC skills done in a real-world environment, plus having your dog walk by food on the ground and more challenging recalls.
The CGCU test includes the CGCA skills done in an urban environment, plus having your dog cross a busy street on leash, and walk up stairs/elevator.
Our six class AKC CGC/CGCA/CGCU Combo course will be offered on Sundays at 6:30pm at Puppy Perfectors in Seattle on Feb 24th, Mar 3rd, Mar 17th, Mar 24th, Apr 7th and Apr 14th (testing day). There are no classes on Mar 10th and Mar 31st. The fee is $150.
